| I came up with this Forum Game a while ago when playing with Yahtzee! Words dice, and I've been spending the last month refining all the rules. Now, I want to see if it can actually work. So why don't we all try it together? The game's called Letterheads and is basically an evolution to my Scrabble game on PWO Forums, that was popular but short-lived. Here's the play. Every day the leading player (myself for the first game and in case of dispute) posts nine letters, chosen at random. Other players can use the nine letters to make up to three words of between two and seven letters in length. The important rule is that you cannot use the same letter tile for more than one word - otherwise, both words are disqualified. Once you have created your words, you must post them in the exact order you wish to play them. You are not required to play three words - one or two is fine as well - so think about what is the best strategy for your play. You then score the words. Scoring is the same as in Scrabble, as in each letter is worth an amount of points based on the difficulty to use that letter - so like this: 1 point: Every other letter 2 points: D, G 3 points: B, C, M, P 4 points: F, H, V, W, Y 5 points: K 8 points: J, X 10 points: Q, Z Here's the catch though! If you have successfully created three words, the third word scores double. This is why the order you post them in is important. Since making the third word shortens the amount of letters you have left for the others though, you have to think wisely whether to try it or not. Score each word individually, using the above rules; and at the end, add it up to make your total for the day. At the end of the day, the player with the highest score wins that day, and can post the nine letters to use for our next game. This continues for each game we play. The person who wins the most games each month wins the title of "Master Letterhead" for the next month. And that's basically the entire game in a nutshell. Oh wait! I forgot to mention the two crucial rules! Okay, not only do all your words have to not repeat any letter tile, but you must also use all nine tiles in total with your words. If you fail to do so, the value of the tiles you have left over is deducted from your score! However, if you succeed, you can add a further ten points. So think carefully about what's the best play - the longest words may not be the best! And finally, all words must be findable in an officially recognised British or American English dictionary (in case of dispute you may be asked to find a definition to prove the word's validity). Words that are invalid are not scored. I'll act as the adjudicator in event of any words being questioned - if I'm not here immediately, feel free to PM me. So what do you guys think? Shall we try this game out together?

| Sorry that rules post was a little longer than I'd planned out. I hope you all followed it all and understand the game!
Anyway, as promised, a quick reference for the scoring rules has been added to the first post. If you still can't work out how to score your word you can find some tools online to work it out for you if you search Google, but remember to include the bonuses and penalties afterwards too as per my rules.
Also, note that the rule is you can't use the same TILE - but it's okay to use the same LETTER. So if there's two As on the board, for example, you can use A twice but no more. Hope that makes sense.
And now, shall we get started?
The nine letters for Day 1 of Letterheads are:
B L W T R E A R U

That's a pretty good example, Roan. Although the words don't have to be related to each other. It's basically just Scrabble when there's only two tiles left in the bag.

| I think those letters have been up long enough now. Disappointed so few people played, but meh, it's a new game; I'm sure we'll get used to it as we go along. Let's see here. How did you guys score? Well, Roandawgz scored 12, but has two penalty points for not using the U and one of the Rs, so his total is 10 points. However, Smacaroni scored 10 points with his two words, but left behind the W which is worth four points. So his total is 6 points. Meaning Roandawgz won this game, and chooses the next set of letters. One possible solution you guys missed was WATER and BLUR. If you had played both of these words, you'd have used all nine letters correctly, and bagged 24 points. Pretty good going nonetheless from both of you though. The spoiler is my scoring calculations in full if you don't know how I worked that out. Feel free to help out with the scoring in future games if you wish - it'd be much appreciated. I will still check them anyway at the end of each day to make sure none of you cheat, but I hold you guys in much higher regard than that, so I hope you all prove me right. - Spoiler:
Roandawgz First word: BLEW - Score 3 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 9 2nd word: RAT - Score 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 --------------- Subtotal 12 Unused letters: R U - Penalty Points 1 + 1 = 2 --------------- Total 10 points.
Smacaroni First word: TEAR - Score 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 2nd word: BLUR - Score 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6 --------------- Subtotal 10 Unused letters: W - Penalty Points 4 = 4 --------------- Total 6 points.

| Roan wanted me to post the next nine letters instead, so I'll keep the game going.
Day 2 - Your letters are:
S B V A Y N E D G
Same rules as always. Last time I waited a little longer than a day to announce the winners because so few people posted. This time I'll probably wait until 8pm GMT tomorrow to score, so it's close enough to a full day. Then we can try to keep this up as a daily thing.

| Wow mad, I've never heard of "vang" before, but I checked and it is a word. You sure know some obscure ones. I have a feeling your score is gonna be pretty high - in fact, I'll work it out now: - Mad30 wrote:

Damn, that's good. I wonder if anyone will try to beat you? There's a couple of hours still left, so if anyone feels brave enough, come on and give it a try! Plus, I don't really want to declare a winner for any round with only one player.

| Yeah, sorry for not declaring the winner earlier, but my router crashed, and I only managed to finally repair it a few hours ago, so I haven't been able to get to the internet. But you're right - you were the winner.
Since I didn't choose the letters this time, I'll instead actually play my own game, just to see how well I'd do at it - and to keep it alive. I think I can make these two words:
AD - Score 1 + 2 = 3 LEGIONS - Score 1 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 8 Subtotal 11 All letters used - Bonus 10 Points Total 21 Points
I hope others join in soon though - this is kinda boring with just the two of us...

age 4 pts.
lid 8 pts.
9 words = +10 pts.
Total = 25 pts.
I had meant to join in the fun earlier, but I've got a terrible condition called laziness. Anyhow, I'm in now. Jinji, may I suggest you put how each of the letters score in your main explanation?

So shall it be done. I offered such an explanation in post 3, however since these forums repeat the first post on each page, having it on the first post would be much more convenient. Gastly, move my scoring explanation from post 3 into the main post.
...I just noticed that more than a day had passed already between Mad's letters being posted and us two playing. Never mind. I suppose if no-one had played on the first day, we can just pretend it started today instead. I would still like to see more players, but we can't stick on the same letters forever. So how about we start the next round when Mad decides to call it, or by 6pm GMT tonight, whichever comes sooner; and anyone who posts in the meantime also counts.

Next letters then: A, D, E, G, I, L, N, O, S Alongside That's very clever, Eupharia, but unfortunately the limit is seven letters for an individual word, so it won't count. This is to encourage strategic use of the letters, which is the main point of the game. Check out the rules again. I will give you kudos though for your effort, and add to your reputation just this one time, because I like to see people exhibiting their intelligence.

| Thought I'd give this game a go, though I will admit that I really suck at scrabble because of my lack of vocabulary expertise.. and the fact that I can't seem to place the right letters in the right places...
Anyways:

I'll try that out and see how it looks.

| I need to fix my connection... it's hard to maintain a Forum game if you can't be around often enough to check it. Anyway, I think this round has gone on long enough, so I'll just score the words I haven't scored yet before I declare a winner... - PyroSkrall wrote:

LION Sad is worth 3 points and LION is worth 4, making 7. You did not use the G or E, which means three points are deducted. So you score 4 points overall. Not great, but it's something. - Miki wrote:

I'll try that out and see how it looks. What's a "gane"? I've never heard of it. Can you find me a definition? Remember that they have to be English words.
Assuming Gane is a word, you would score 21 points with that play though - five for GANE, six for SOLID, and the bonus 10 for all nine letters. That's actually a pretty good score - you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. - Memieko wrote:

Sorry Memi, but every word must be between two and seven letters long. One letter words make it too easy to use left over letters, and more than seven makes it too easy to make high-scoring words. I'll quote the rules in case anyone thinks I'm making them up as I go along:

I'll let you off this time by allowing the other words to score anyway. That's five and five, making ten points; minus one for the A that's now left over. So you score 9.
Okay, so that means:
- Pyro scored a total of 4 points, and took last place in this round.
- Memi scored 9, and is fourth.
- Both myself and Miki scored 21, assuming Miki's words are valid.
- But RedHerring wins round 3 with 25 points!
Congrats Red! You can set the next nine letters if you wish.

And the root is gae which techniqually is a scottish word for "go"... it's your call on it but it doesn't matter at this point as Felipe already won haha. but yeah, not sure if Scottish words count.

| @Miki: I wouldn't actually count that then, but it matters not presently. @Red: Doesn't matter how you choose the letters - any way's fine. The first game I actually chose the letters by simply rolling nine Yahtzee Words dice. Well actually, they weren't Yahtzee words dice but I don't actually know which game they came from... | |
