So, as a lot of you may know, Minecraft is epic.

So far, we've managed to get a bunch of you on, and you seem to like the direction the server is headed. So with this post, I'll declare the official opening of EDN's own public Minecraft server.

CHANGELOG:
2/7/2011: Updated Minecraft Server & plugins to latest working versions. Fixes include:
-Naturally flowing water & lava
-Wool colors stay when placed
-THE NETHER (/world Nether) [Needs appropriate permissions. Will work on a fix]
-Mass spawn animals (hope it's an admin thing. I'll get rid of it if not.)

2/2/2011: Added an additional 2GB of memory usage to the server run file. Server now runs on 3GB of memory.
2/2/2011: Installed JDE in Windows to allow Minecraft to run a smidge faster.
2/2/2011: Physical network update. Ports for Minecraft have been allowed through my software firewall, keeping me safe, and you out. (But you can still play minecraft. )
2/2/2011: Support for Colored Wool added. Pending restart so I can add it in. (Not guaranteed functional, Zzim.)

-Useful hints
*A lot of people (myself included) will encounter their client locking up for no good reason. a depth of 1 fog (the "f" key on your keyboard) will allow gameplay to function better.
*Older machines have a hard time rendering whole areas. Set your fog/visibility to the smallest setting possible.
*Notebook computers (no video card) seem to have a really tough time with this game. If you have a spare flash drive laying around, you might be able to pull off decent gameplay using the TurboBoost function on a flashdrive, if it's available.

The server currently is going up and down almost daily. This will soon become once a week, and then seldom, as I am currently adding mods and fixing bugs. And if anyone cares:

Server specs:
-Java 6 (x64)
-Core i7 (8-core) 4.2GHz processor
-6GB dedicated memory
-Running on a 64GB solid state drive
-Gigabit connection

Needless to say, if you encounter problems with the server, it's not my fault. Go google some troubleshooting guides.

Status Update:

As you may know, the 1.4 update happened last week. Here's what happens usually in an update:

1.) Client update happens. Clients cannot access old servers, and servers need to be updated.
2.) Server updates. During a server update, it breaks all the plugins on the server. Some of which you know are:
-Cuboid Commands
-World switching
-Teleportation
-Warp points
-Godmode
-Cakewalking
-etc.
3.) Finding these plugins is easy, however, it's up to the mercy of the plugin developer whether or not they want to update their plugin.

That's been what's happening lately. I've been waiting this week to hear about the next update, and it comes next week, when we move into Beta 1.5. At that time, I'll update the server once more, and we should be floating along normally. Thanks for your patience in the matter.

The server has mirrored at this point in time. What this means for everyone:

-There are 2 servers now. Structural Builders, and artistic builders.
-Structural builders will undergo huge designs, involvement in group efforts to do massive projects.
-Artistic builders can build whatever they please.
-Everyone is now their own admin. Please respect each other. I cannot fix what you do, so if you think it's bad, don't do it.
-Structural builders will have a private server to work on, which gives us privacy to build without risking damage to griefers, while artistic builders will work without a whitelist, and offers little protection.
-Artistic builders will have the current 6 worlds available to work from, all of which are infinite:

-bubblesphere (The bio-sphere project)
-Dragunov (Blkshadow's test world)
-dramander (pokemon stuff/city structures)
-nether (self explanitory)
-old (8000, estate, ganon's castle when it was built, RL's dam, etc, etc...)
-test (go have fun here)
-world (where EDN and Kakariko Villiage is.)

If you want to contribute to the Structural team, I must sample your artwork in the artistic build world. This ensures top quality results from our build team.

Servers will be offline today for maintenance. The power outages caused the maps to have some corrupted chunks, and will need to be re-inserted or reverted to an earlier save. My apologies to those who may lose things in the coming 24 hours.

This does not effect Server Eupharia. It will remain online during the downtime.

Update: Early testing has allowed me to get what I need to handle all the traffic properly, so look for a huge update this week. Also, if you have a microphone, Ventrilo will be available for those that want to use it.
